Joanna Morrin MSc CTA UKCP reg Psychotherapist
Have you heard yourself say… ‘I’ll be fine, I just need a holiday and then I’ll be back to my old self’, or maybe ‘it’s only the weather getting me down’… sound familiar?
Perhaps you have found your usual coping strategies no longer work. Do you find yourself drinking more than you normally would? Is your sleep pattern disrupted? Have you noticed you’re turning down social events because you’re finding it difficult to be around people?
Talking to friends and family is great, but you may want more than platitudes and helpful advice. Seeing a Counsellor or Psychotherapist gives you the space to talk unedited. It is the most amazing thing you can do for your mental health. You will have the space to explore the decisions you make, understand and gain perspective on turbulent relationships, and take time to be more grounded with yourself.
Why therapy?
Life is complex and there are so many reasons why people come to therapy. You don’t have to have a specific “problem”, feeling dissatisfied with your life is reason enough. You deserve the best life and sometimes taking stock of where we are helps us move forward so we can make the right decisions about ourselves in relation to others and important life events.
I am an experienced Psychotherapist and Counsellor and I work with clients wanting to work through a variety of issues. The list below is not exhaustive, but to give you an idea of the sort of issues I can help with:
- Low self-esteem or lack of confidence
- Anxiety and panic attacks
- Feelings of emptiness, sadness or depression
- Childhood abuse and trauma
- Relationship issues and breakdown of a relationship
- Inability to concentrate or cope
- Stress
- Sexual problems
- Difficulty making or sustaining relationships
- Repeating unsatisfactory or destructive relationships
- Anti-social behaviour
- Obsessional behaviour - like alcohol, drugs, gambling, food, sex and internet use
- Anger and extreme mood swings
- Bereavement
- Coping with long term and terminal illnesses for yourself or a loved one
- Work-related issues
- Emotional difficulties
- Social shyness
- Isolation
